Dear Reader, I am excited to share with you that Running Toward the Danger is off to my editor, Theresa, for the down and dirty round 2 of editing. I know there’s still lots of work to be done by both of us, but God has blessed me with a very skilled, insightful, and kind partner in writing. I’ll be stepping away from the manuscript for a little bit while Tom and I head off to Baltimore for a few days. Then we hit the floor running toward a new event for the non-profit we facilitate.

Even though I’m backing off from the actual manuscript, there is still the hardest part to write, at least for me.
Have I mentioned before that I love writing? This may sound weird if you’re not a writer, but the books I write almost become like my children. For avid readers, perhaps favored books also become cherished parts of your life story.
Thus far on my journey in writing, I’ve written lots of stories, dabbled in poetry just for fun, penned a few devotionals, and spent copious time and energy on technical papers for college courses and progams. However, as much pleasure as writing in general gives me, it’s stories that excite and enrich my soul.
So, what’s the hardest part you may ask? The part I’m using this blog post to justify procrastinating on.
For me, it’s the dreaded “Author Bio” located in the back matter of a book. I self-publish using KDP (Kindle Direct Printing) through Amazon. (Just in case you’re wondering, this isn’t my first rodeo, and I do have other books listed on Amazon.) KDP has tons of good information for writers, except for . . . you got it! Not what to include in the Author Bio. Here are the complete directions: “This falls on a right-facing page.” Yep, that’s it.
Maybe you’re thinking to yourself, “Okay, Brainiac, just Google it, or step into the 21st century and ChatGPT it?”
Well, you’d think it would be that simple, right? Sigh . . . except, I’m sure not for anyone reading this, but Google beckons this Alice straight down the rabbit hole.
For someone not particularly athletic or energetic, I can hop from one tantalizing topic to another with all kinds of agility. (That’s a pretty lame excuse, even to me.)
And believe it or not, Dear Reader, snagging the URL for ChatGPT was the first time I’ve ever been on the website. Pitiful, or stubbornly stuck in the previous century? Perhaps I’ll get my brave on, skirt around the rabbit hole, and pay it a real visit after I post. Not that I’m resistant to change, but really, if blood, sweat, tears, and good old hard copy was good enough for the Pantheon of writers, like Dickens, Tolstoy, Michner, and Dr. Seuss, why not me?
Alright, here it is, Dear Reader. The hardest part about writing an Author’s Bio is me writing about me. What does my audience (hopefully you) want to know about me as a writer or person? Can I write a really good one that will become a one-size-fits-all for future books? Do readers actually read a book’s back matter? Excuses, excuses, and more than enough whining.
Dear Reader, thank you very much for your silent, but powerful, encouragement by simply reading this post (although comments are greatly appreciated). Just spewing my confusion and apprehension may have made me just desperate enough to seek online counsel.
And finally, I want you to know the most important impetuses to my writing. First, I try earnestly to listen to what God wants me to write, and faithfully steward His words into composition. Secondly, it’s you, yes, you! I want to write my very best not only to please the “author and finisher of our faith,” but to please and engage you as well. That includes the Author Bio in Running Toward the Danger‘s back matter.
You are a crucial part of Danger’s Journey, Dear Reader. Your prayers as we near our destination of publishing this fall are appreciated, specifically for a tender spirit and focused mind. In the meantime, I pray all your journeys will be blessed, and hopefully not detoured by unexpected rabbit holes.
